Sunflower

Sunflower

For the sunflower's center, choose 3 shades of warm brown -- a warm tan for the center's outer ring, a medium brown for the middle ring, and an almost black brown for the center. Notice the inner "star" piece is added after the two triangle sections are sewn together.

Foundation piece through piece #9 on both Unit A and Unit B. Trim along edge of seam allowances as usual, and sew Units A and B together along diagonal seam to make a square. Press seam to one side, removing the foundation paper underneath the seam for easier pressing. Then, treating the sewn-together Units A and B as a single foundation, add piece *A1/B1* along the line shown. Not only does this piece add an interesting little star in the block's center, it reduces the number of seams meeting in the middle of the block, making it less bulky and flatter.

Sew a total of four squares using these two triangles for one 6" sunflower.
